The KJK said: “Comrade Leyla Agiri was born in 1973 in Van-Özalp. After graduating from high school, she joined the guerrilla ranks in 1993. When she joined she said she was taking her name from Leyla Kasım. She developed her consciousness and will by meeting with Ocalan. With self-confidence, she reached the power of the meaning of re-birth because of her recognition of the truth of women.”
The statement added: “Comrade Leyla Agiri used to say: ‘We learned from the Leader [Ocalan] the strong way of welcoming the pains. It is necessary to turn every pain into a powerful initiative and to turn every place and every moment into resistance. Here, when we do this, our pain will ease. We will be strong, because we have our promise to keep to these beautiful souls and martyrs.”
The statement added: “Leyla Agiri developed in her personality the most effective and active representation of the women's freedom line of the resistance and freedom claimed by Ocalan. She took inspiration from her friend Sakine Cansiz. She succeeded in representing the freedom leaders of our women's struggle history by making the most competent, vibrant leading militancy of the Jin Jiyan Azadi code of freedom.
Thanks to leading Kurdish women such as Martyr Leyla Agiri, our people and Kurdish women are defending a glorious freedom cause with great efforts and resistance. They strengthened and integrated the struggle with the peoples and beliefs of the region.
Today, the resistance of Kurdish women and the freedom stance of Kurdish women have given hope and inspiration to all peoples and women of the world.
All Kurdistan martyrs and the efforts and efforts of our women martyrs are warming and enlightening like the sun, not only for the Kurdish people but also for the peoples of the Middle East and the world.”
