Jineolojî camp Leyla Agirî calls for the release of RJAK activists

The "Jineolojî-Camp Leyla Agirî" calls for the release of RJAK activists Xewla Mihemed Hesen, Ciwana Ebdulbaqî and Seyran Ehmed Hesen detained in South Kurdistan. The three women have disappeared since their arrest in early August.

The “Jineolojî summer camp Leyla Agirî” in Wendland, in which 50 people took part, ended on Sunday. On the last evening of the camp, a joint declaration of solidarity called for the immediate end of the bombings and occupation attacks by Turkey in South Kurdistan, Shengal and in the autonomous region of Northern and Eastern Syria, as well as the immediate release of women's rights activists Xewla Mihemed Hesen, Ciwana Ebdulbaqî and Seyran Ehmed Hesen.

Xewla Mihemed Hesen and Ciwana Ebdulbaqî are board representatives of the umbrella organization of the women's movement RJAK (Rêxistina Jinên Azad a Kurdistanê) in South Kurdistan, and Seyran Ehmed Hesen is also a women's rights activist. The three women were arrested on 4 August 2021 by KDP security forces while they were on their way back from a commemorative event of the ISIS genocide in Shengal. They have since disappeared and there is no information about their whereabouts.

The declaration of solidarity called on the KDP to release the women's rights activists immediately. Some of the women who took part in the Jineolojî camp got to know the three women who "disappeared" in June at a meeting in Sulaymaniyah during a trip to the region by the peace delegation.

One of the participants of the camp told ANF: “When we connect, even across countries and continents, a great strength emerges. Such a connection also arose when some of the participants in this Jineolojî camp traveled to South Kurdistan in June as part of the peace delegation. We had talks with families of the martyrs, peace mothers, politicians, ecology activists and representatives of the umbrella organization of the women's movement RJAK.”

The camp participants see the arrest of the South Kurdish activists as an attack on organized women's structures. "This shows how much we as organized women are a thorn in the side of those in power."
The declaration also condemned the attacks by Turkey in South Kurdistan, Shengal and Northeast Syria. "The bombings and occupations of Turkey must be stopped immediately. Defend Kurdistan! "
