Intense interest in the “Rojava” documentary in the UK Parliament

The documentary “Rojava – Between Democracy and War,” which describes the self-governance model in North and East Syria and the Kurdish people's struggle for freedom after ISIS, was screened in the UK Parliament.

A special screening of the documentary “Rojava – Between Democracy and War” was held in the Boothroyd Hall of the UK Parliament. The event was jointly organized by the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) UK Representative Office, the Centre for Kurdish Progress, and MailOnline.

MailOnline Chief Foreign Correspondent David Averre and Director of Photography Charlie Craven, who produced the documentary, traveled to Rojava following the weakening of the Assad regime in Syria to observe the political and security conditions in the region firsthand. The documentary, shown at the event, examines the self-governance model established in northeastern Syria, the region's post-ISIS reconstruction process, and the Kurdish people's struggle for freedom in all its aspects.

The documentary features interviews with high-level political representatives in Rojava, with special focus on exclusive interviews with YPJ (Women’s Protection Units) spokesperson Ruksen Mihemed and YPG (People’s Protection Units) spokesperson Siyamend Elî. It highlights the fact that the social model built on the basis of Abdullah Öcalan’s democratic nation paradigm is the most progressive revolutionary project in the Middle East.

The event attracted significant interest from academics, journalists, human rights dvocates, and civil society representatives. During the question-and-answer session that followed the presentation, critical topics such as the ISIS mercenaries held in camps like Hol and Roj, the negotiation process between the Damascus regime and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Abdullah Öcalan's ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’, and the implications of the PKK's congress decisions for Turkey-Syria relations were discussed.

Dr. Mihemed Mistefa, representative of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) in the UK, who attended the special screening of the documentary, said that the delegations formed by the Autonomous Administration have begun working on the basis of constitutional rights, particularly those of the Kurds.

The event was also attended by Dirk Campbell, the father of Anna Campbell, a British volunteer fighter who lost her life in the ranks of the YPJ in Rojava. Campbell informed participants about the campaigns and activities he has been conducting in the UK appealing to the government and the Foreign Office since his daughter's martyrdom.
