31 women murdered in Turkey in November

The ‘We Will Stop Femicides Platform’ announced that 31 women have been killed in November by men, with a total of 652 women in the last 19 months.

The ‘We Will Stop Femicides Platform’ (KCDP) announced to the public their November report on violence against women and children. The report states that at least 652 women have been killed by men in the last 19 months in Turkey.

“ALTHOUGH THE WOMEN’S MOVEMENT GETS STRONGER...”

The report says: “Although the women’s movement has put forth a strong struggle in recent times, the effect of years of misogynist policies continue. These policies prevent a decrease in femicides. Despite the rights brought by the Law No.6284 and the Istanbul Convention, which Turkey has signed, state and relevant institutions fail to take concrete steps or implement the law in an effective manner. Despite trust in law falling to record lows, many demonstrations, public protests and statements held in the month of November show that women continue to fight against all forms of violence together.”

“ACTUAL NUMBERS ARE MUCH HIGHER”

The report says 31 women were killed in November and 27 women were subjected to sexual assault, and stresses that “the actual numbers are much higher”.

The We Will Stop Femicides Platform also states that abuse against children continues.
