A 20-year-old woman has been murdered in the northeast Syrian city of Dirbêsiyê. The Asayish (Internal Security) reported on Monday that Delal D. was apparently killed by her brother in Hesekê. Whether the man has been arrested was unclear at first. The body of the young woman was discovered today near the village of Til Tishrin on the roadside. An autopsy will now provide information on the course of the crime.
The lockdown during the Corona crisis have encouraged violence against women worldwide - even in the autonomous regions of northern and eastern Syria. Between the end of March and mid-June alone, fourteen women in the region became victims of femicide, while sixteen women committed suicide during the same period. Another 126 women were affected by patriarchal violence, according to a research report by the Women's Justice Council and the autonomous women's structures of the internal security forces.
In recent months, women's organizations in the autonomous regions have repeatedly criticized that society does not guarantee women's safety. The increase in the number of femicides clearly show that women are still considered a weak point in parts of society. In early August, a 19-year-old pregnant woman was murdered by her brother in Kobanê.
