Trustee for Amed Municipality sought before the arrest of Co-mayors

AKP offered Ahmet Bilgin, the former Refah Party mayor of Amed between 1994 and 1999, to appoint him as trustee to Amed Metropolitan Municipality even before the arrest of Co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı.

AKP is reported to have sought a trustee to appoint to Amed Municipality even before Co-Mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı were charged with and arrested for “membership to an armed organization” last night.

The news on AKP’s search for a trustee came out after the Co-Mayors’ lawyer and the former Amed Bar Association President Mehmet Emin Aktar stated that officials had arranged which prison his clients would be put in before yesterday’s court hearing.

An AKP committee led by the AKP Diyarbakır Provincial President Muhammed Akar is reported to have offered Ahmet Bilgin, the former Refah Party mayor of Amed between 1994 and 1999, to appoint him as the municipality’s trustee. However Ahmet Bilgin, the current dean of Kırıkkale University’s Law Faculty, is reported to have declined the offer.

ANF has reached Ahmet Bilgin to confirm these reports, and Bilgin first asked us where we heard about these reports and later denied them and hung up after a moment of silence.
