Kýþanak: Way to solution is clearly marked

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Gültan Kýþanak said at her party's parliamentary group meeting that the 3,5 millions of signatures collected showed that PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan is regarded as the main interlocutor in the peace process by people.

"If you genuinely want a solution, the way to achieve it is clear. The signatures and the protocols are in the Parliament. Everybody should live freely according to their identity. Give up the assimilation policies," said Kýþanak.

Criticizing the KCK (Kurdistan Communities' Union) operations and arrests, Kýþanak said: "Are you trying to locked up all of the opposition to have your own politics implemented? You jailed 6,000 people. What you are actually trying to imprison is not just Kurdish people but the freedom of the people and its demands. However you shall not succeed."

Reminding of the fact that there was a National Security Council (MGK) meeting the day before the Roboski massacre where 34 civilians were killed in air raids, Kýþanak noted that only the prime minister, the minister of National Defense and the Chief of General Staff could have given the order for the operation to be carried out and that they should publicly admit their responsibility.

"39 days passed. How is it possible that the investigation brought no results in 40 days? Is it so difficult to find out who gave the order?" asked Kýþanak.

Kýþanak also criticized deputy prime minister Bülent Arýnç for his words on Kurdish not being a language of civilization and said that this was a racist attitude.

"The minister asks if Kurdish is a language of civilization. What do you mean by civilization? Who is civilized and who is not? In the past civilization was defined as occidentalisation, after that as Turkification, and now how do you define it? Is this not a racist approach? The minister says the Kurdish alphabet has three letters less than the Turkish alphabet, he does not even know that the Kurdish alphabet has three letters more. We demanded the acceptance of the three letters in the alphabet with an amendment to the law. The state running TV channel TRT6 is broadcasting according to this law now, but then it is still illegal since the law prohibits the three Kurdish letters. The AKP has done nothing for this law in five years. The mentality of Turkification is behind this. Why do you publish Kurdish poem Mem û Zîn if Kurdish is not a language of civilization?" said Kýþanak.

Kýþanak added, "They are openly giving us the message that we will be arrested unless we give up our demands of the recognition of our identity and education in our mother tongue. There is only one thing to do against this mentality: to keep the plural identity of the country alive. It is terrible to talk about 'giving' the identity of a people to them. The language of a people is its own essential being."

Kýþanak also criticized the Minister of Interior Affairs Ýdris Naim Þahin who said "You say there is no freedom, so why are you complaining when you are arrested?" In response Kýþanak said: "What freedom do we have? There is no freedom of defending oneself in one's mother tongue. The workers have no freedom to fight for their rights. There is no freedom of asking the responsible ones for massacres. Mr. Zarakolu is in prison and nominated for the Nobel prize. They imprisoned him under the title of 'KCK' but what they would like to imprison in fact is Mr. Zarakolu's libertarian approach. There are more than 100 arrested journalists. Unionists, lawyers are in prison. Our country has the record of arresting lawyers. And you say that there is freedom. We do not like these liberties we have, Mr. Minister!"
