Kürkçü: Roboski massacre responsibles should be on trial
In a statement calling on lawyers, human rights defenders and sensible citizens to advance solidarity with relatives of Roboski victims, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü pointed out that villagers in Roboski are going to trial instead of those responsible for the slaughter.
Underkining that Roboski people are not only subject to trial and prosecution but they are also forced to revoke their complaints under pressure, Kürkçü MP said the followings;
“As a member of the sub-commission established to investigate the deaths caused by the aerial operation on Iraqi borderline of Uludere/Þýrnak on 28 December night of 2011, the villagers I have listened to in Roboski told me that they have been subject to increasing pressure of local military and legal authorities since they started to display their reaction in public areas.”
Kürkçü called attention to an article published on daily paper Radikal on 10 May and said that “This article also affirms that Uludere regiment commander has forced the villagers to revoke their complaints, telling them to forget about the event and to drop the subject.”
Reminding that none of the government officers responsible for the slaughter has been interrogated although 135 days have gone by since the event, Kürkçü noted the followings; “On the other hand, according to what villagers told me, the young people in Uludere are every day being interrogated on the pretext that they assaulted the Governor of Uludere during the funeral ceremony ,while family elders are being forced to serve as village guards. Most recently, university student Cabbar Yýlmaz, on the excuse that he appears on a video, has been sent to jail on charges of “complete attempt to murder” the Governor of Uludere.
On the other hand, added Kürkçü, the people in Roboski haven’t been provided with the legal support they need in asking for the trial of those responsible and to object to the arrest of their youngsters. The lack of an adequate legal process encourages oppressive authorities and makes them more neglectful, remarked Kürkçü and called on all bar associations, human rights institutions, organizations of judiciary profession and democratic mass organizations to take a particular interest in the problems of Roboski people and to keep acting in solidarity with them till the disclosure of those responsible.
Kürkçü ended underlining that it is the ethical and political responsibility for the Turkish Parliament and the Uludere Subcommission to reveal those responsible and to protect Roboski people from pressures.
