Jailed MP on hunger strike punished

BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Mardin MP Gülser Yýldýrým who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for three days in Mardin prison has been given a disciplinary punishment by prison authorities. She has been denied open visits for a month because of a two-day hunger strike she had carried out before. BDP Van MP Nazmi Gür who visited Yýldýrým in Mardin E Type Closed Prison said that all prisoners on hunger strike have been subjected to disciplinary punishments.

Gür also visited BDP Þýrnak MP Faysal Sarýyýldýz, who is on hunger strike in the same prison. Noting that Sarýyýldýz has lost weight, Gür reported that the hunger strikers are determined to continue their action until the isolation of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan and the military and political operations are ended.

Gür said he will prepare a report for the Ministry of Justice about the prison where, he said, there are serious problems in terms of both living and prisoners conditions.
