BDP and DTK hold press conference after repression

The whole night long sit-in by Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputies and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) members ended with a press release in the meeting area. BDP and DTK representatives staged the sit-in to protest against the police attack on Saturday’s meeting in Diyarbakýr.

BDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ said that “The AKP government was not able to prevent the people’s resistance in Amed despite the fascistic policies and practices it used to prevent the Kurdish people to demand Öcalan’s freedom. The government should see the will of the Kurdish people now”.

Demirtaþ added that “a government cannot bring democracy by deploying police forces everywhere and allowing them to beat up everybody”.

Demirtaþ evaluated the Amed resistance as a clear statement by the Kurdish people who – he underlined – “will never give up resistance until their demands are met”.

Speaking after Demirtaþ, DTK co-chair Aysel Tuðluk said that Diyarbakýr has once again witnessed “the AKP fascism and the 90 year-old policy of repression of the Turkish state”. She added that “Kurdish people are being subjected to these policies because they want to live free with their own language and identity and they have indicated Kurdish leader Öcalan as the interlocutor for a democratic solution. The organized Kurdish people will never bow at the feet of the AKP government which should therefore end the isolation on Öcalan and accept he is the interlocutor in any peace negotiation”.
