New commune set up in Sheikh Maqsoud

Population increased in Aleppo’s neighbourhood and residents set up new commune

In the Aleppo's Shexmeqsûd (Sheikh Maqsoud) neighbourhood, a new commune was established in an area called Riyadh El-Erneb. 

The commune was set up to deal with the increasing population needs.

Population has increased and people began to return to Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhood after the area was considered safe. 

Residents called for a meeting to discuss the issues facing the areas and decided that establishing a new commune would be the day to deal with increasing demands. 

Hundreds of citizens attended the meeting

The meeting started with a minute of silence. Then Sebri Efrin, executive from TEV-DEM (Democratic Society Movement), spoke about the importance and role of the communes. 

“Given the increase in population we need to set up a new commune to provide for the new needs”, Efrin said.

Efrin also added that the co-directors of the communes and members of the community will be elected by popular vote to further strengthen the service and communes themselves.

Residents at the meeting made their remarks before electing the co-chairs of the new Riyadh El-Erneb Commune.

Following the norm established by the Democratic Autonomous Administration, a man and woman were elected co-chairs.  

Husam Rashid and Elîfê Nezir were the two residents who got the majority of votes. 

The Commune will also set up committee for peace, education, economy, service, defense and health .
