‘Those who defeated ISIS are targeted in the sight of international powers’

The AANES representative in Kurdistan Region called for support for the Autonomous Administration and the forces that defeated ISIS.

Fethullah Huseyni, representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, made a press statement in Sulaymaniyah to mark 1 November World Kobanê Day and raised concern over the attacks carried out by the invading Turkish state and its mercenaries in the North and East Syria region.

Fethullah Huseyni called attention to the attacks of the Turkish state and the silence of international and guarantor powers, noting that the north-eastern fighters are defending the whole world.

Huseyni pointed out that the struggle led by YPG/YPJ fighters has evolved into a universal resistance. “The defeat of ISIS disturbed the Turkish state, which then engaged in cooperation and set mercenaries loose back to the region. ISIS was defeated in Baxoz thanks to the resistance of the fighters on the ground, the leadership of the SDF and the partnership of the coalition forces.”

Huseyni stated that the invading Turkish state attacked and occupied Afrin in 2018 and Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi in 2019 to seek revenge against the Kurdish people.

The AANES representative remarked that they wanted to turn World Kobanê Day into an opportunity to make the current self-government system permanent. “Many parties, including Kurds, do not want to do this at the moment. Forces inside and abroad are hostile to this project.”

Huseyni also addressed the violations of rights in the North and East Syria regions occupied by the Turkey-backed mercenary groups. He insisted that a return to pre-2011 conditions is unacceptable: “Our self-government project is a new project and a solution for all components of the region. Syria should trust the Kurds and the SDF.”

Huseyni stated that those who defeated ISIS are targeted in the sight of all international powers today. “The Autonomous Administration and forces that defeated ISIS should be supported. These fighters have protected all humanity,” he added.
