On April 26, the Kurdish Unity and Common Stance Conference was held in Qamishlo, Rojava, with the participation of more than 400 people, including representatives of several parties and organizations, intellectuals, artists, women's and youth organizations, and institutions from Rojava (West), Bakur (North), and Bashur (South) Kurdistan.
Speaking to ANF, participants emphasized that the conference was a historic step that should be celebrated by the Kurdish people and that organizing such a conference in the current process was of great importance.
Zeyneb Murad: Our people need unity more than ever before
Zeyneb Murad, Co-Chair of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), who delivered the opening speech at the conference, stated the following: “This conference is a historic undertaking at a historic juncture. The success of this undertaking will also have an impact on other parts of Kurdistan. We all know that the issue of national unity has been on our people's agenda for years and that extensive work has been carried out on this matter. At this stage of the historic process for our people and major changes in Syria, the formation of Kurdish unity will respond to the demands of our people. Our people need unity more than ever before; this will contribute to securing the rights of the Kurdish people in all areas in Syria's new administration. This conference is a source of pride for all Kurdish people. Our people are going through a sensitive process in the four parts of Kurdistan. Therefore, this conference will be a great achievement for the four parts of Kurdistan and the overall process."
Hemrîn Elî: Increasing women's participation and representation is a historic development
Hemrîn Elî, Deputy Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of Cizre Canton, stated that the conference was of great significance for women, saying, “Increasing women's participation and representation is a historic development. In the last 14 years, women have led the revolution. They have also led the efforts for Kurdish unity, and a Kurdish women's conference has been held recently, which also laid the foundation for the Kurdish Unity and Common Stance Conference. The rights of women and young people are recognized as fundamental rights. Women must be able to play an active role in this process as well. Today is not an ordinary day, because this is the first time such a conference has been held. For this reason, this conference is of historic significance.”
