University students in Damascus demanded the cancelation of the mandatory National Exam during a protest held outside the Ministry of Education.
Dozens of university students gathered in front of the Ministry of Education building in Damascus to demand the cancellation of the compulsory National Exam required for graduation.
The students stated that the National Exam has become a tool of corruption and exploitation. They criticized the interim Damascus administration for continuing to imitate the education system of the Baath regime and for forcing students to take an exam that lacks clear standards. The students noted that the exam has become a barrier for those unable to obtain their diplomas and find employment.
The students also stated that the Baath regime’s examination system is riddled with corruption networks and that exams can be passed through bribes.
The students said that Minister of Higher Education Marwan al-Halabi has not responded to their demands and has even refused to meet with the student delegation.
