Stories of resistance

Since 2012, Rojava has been under attack from the Turkish state and its mercenary groups, and has written stories of resistance from the fighters who sacrificed their lives to defend their land.

Rojava and North-East Syrian peoples remember their brave children who protected their land until the last drop of their blood with great resistance and sacrifice.

These brave fighters often have left behind not just their parents. Some left behind children who have not known their parents who have sacrificed their life in defense of their lands so that those children could live free.

One of these children is Serhad (Xelef), the son of Martyr Serhad (Xelef). He was not yet born when his father fell martyr during the Serêkaniye Honor Resistance.

Tiny Xelef is only a week old. His mother, Ranya, begins to tell the story of Sherad (Xelef) and those days of resistance in tears. "We loved each other, and we got married. We had to go to Başûrê Kurdistan due to financial problems. But Serhad every day was repeating that he would return to Rojava and protect his land together with his friends from the YPG. And so he did. During our two-year marriage, he was always known by his friends as a gentile fighters."

The last time I said to him, 'Our child will be born, don't go anywhere', but he said, 'This child needs a beautiful future'. He was a powerful fighter. He wanted to see our baby born so much. But the Turkish state that came and occupied our lands together with its mercenaries is responsible to my husband falling martyr and not being able to see his son. One month after Serhad fell martyr, our son was born. We named him after his father, and he will walk in his father's path. My burden is very heavy, and as Allah gives strength to me and my son, we will walk on in his footsteps."

Martyr  Argeş: If I fell martyr you will say I was from Til Temir

Baby Aras is looking curiously around with bright eyes. He is in the arms of his granny  named Şemsa Brahim Xelil... Aras, the son of Argeş (Yusıf Mıhemed), martyr of the Honor Resistance.  When Argeş goes to the front Aras is only 3 months old. He kissed his son and everytime he returns after a new victory he tells his son of the freefuture he will have. He used to say, 'One day if I fell martyr, you will say I am from Til Temir'".

His mother tells about him: "My son Argeş was married for a year and had a child. He had been in the YPG ranks for 7 years. He went to the front during the war of Serêkaniye and fell martyr. My son, Argeş, left me this child, who was three months old at the time. Our stuff is gone, but more important my son is gone. My two sons are on the war front. Our house, everything is gone, we just had to leave our land with the clothes on us. We did my son's martyrdom ceremony, but I could not have a proper mourn. We are from the village of Behiriye in Serêkaniye but now our village is occupied by the Turkish state and its mercenaries."

Şemsa A MAIN: THIS SOIL IS OUR, WHO WILL PAY IF WE CAN'T PAY THE PRICE?

When we asked what she thought of her son's martyrdom, she said: "Our motherland is our homeland, the land is our land, who will pay today if we don't pay the price? When I said to my son, don't go, he would answer 'even if I knew it was my last day, I would never run away.'"

Yusuf was a known fighter in Serêkaniyê. From now on, I will replace Aras's father and raise him. The mercenaries broke into our house, and looted it, ripped it to the roof. We left our garden, and everything, we fled to save our lives."
