SDF launches large-scale operation in Deir ez-Zor countryside

The campaign is targeting ISIS sleeper cells and their weapons cache and the dens used by members and leaders of ISIS in the region bordering Iraq.

SDF forces and the international coalition forces started this morning a large-scale military and security operation against ISIS sleeper cells in al-Ajeej Valley, northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

According to the statement by SDF Press Office, the campaign is targeting the ISIS sleeper cells and their weapons cache and the dens used by members and leaders of ISIS in the region bordering Iraq.

The operation aims to control the routes of smuggling weapons and terrorist members, SDF said.

The statement said, “The four-day operation has started early this morning after several missile strikes conducted by the coalition forces in conjunction with launch of light bombs and intensive flight by reconnaissance planes. This operation comes under the joint continuous efforts between our forces and the International coalition forces in north and eastern Syria in order to prevent Daesh and other terrorists’ organizations from creating chaos, threatening the security and stability in the region and preventing the sleeper cells from achieving their subversive activities."
