As part of a series of ongoing meetings with various societal and political figures, and on the tenth anniversary of the Shengal (Sinjar) massacre committed by ISIS terrorists against the Yazidis, the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, and a Commander of the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ), Rohlat Afrin, along with the co-chairman of the Democratic Union Party, Saleh Muslim, received a delegation from the Shengal region. This delegation included Dakhil Murad Ashour, a member of the Tribal Council, and Saeed Melhem Hamo, a member of the Autonomous Administration Council in Shengal and the Tribal Council.
The SDF General Command discussed with the delegation the challenges facing Shengal and emphasized the need to address them through dialogue with the Iraqi government. The General Command stressed that it is Baghdad’s responsibility to listen to the demands of the people of Shengal and to begin the reconstruction of the region, which was devastated by ISIS, in addition to facilitating the return of displaced persons to their homes.
In response, the Shengal delegation expressed their gratitude for the sacrifices made by the people of Rojava and their military forces, who opened a humanitarian corridor to save the people of Shengal from death during the ISIS attack on the Yazidi town ten years ago.
At the end of the meeting, the SDF General Command reaffirmed its readiness to provide all forms of material, moral, and political support to Shengal once again.
