The Democratic Civil Administration in Deir ez-Zor has opened the Salhiya crossing on Sunday.

The crossing connects the Democratic Civil Administration areas with the areas under the control of the Damascus government in Deir ez-Zor. Its opening serves as a step that reduces the distance for citizens to 140 km to reach the city.

The crossing was closed due to the Corona pandemic, and the closure continued for about a year, and its opening contributed to facilitating the movement of people between the Autonomous Administration areas and the Syrian government.

The Salhiya crossing is considered the main gate to Deir ez-Zor from the northern side, as it shortens the long distances that people used to travel to reach the city of Deir ez-Zor, reaching about 140 kilometers, and it spares them danger passing through illegal river crossings.

According to the agreement between the Civil Administration and the government, the crossing will be open three days a week, which are Saturday, Monday and Wednesday, from 09:00 to 15:00.

Those coming from government areas undergo a medical examination before entering the Civil Administration areas in Deir ez-Zor.

Speaking to ANHA, Majid Abboud Al-Ajjour, a citizen of the Syrian government-controlled village of Marat, thanked the Autonomous Administration for the support it provides to the citizens.

In a related context, the administrator in the Customs Gate Office in Deir ez-Zor, Muhammad Al-Hussein, revealed efforts to open the crossing on a daily basis, and for commercial crossing as well.
