Local Administrations Committee in Afrin Region called on the international community to break the silence against invasion policies of the Turkish state targeting Afrin and pointed out the need for a united struggle to liberate the occupied city.
The Local Administrations Committee and Afrin Region Municipalities gathered at the Leader Öcalan Park in Til Sosin village and protested the Turkish state striving to change demographic structure in Afrin.
The local officials made a statement expressing that the Turkish state cooperating with Qatar and Kuwait has changed the demographic structure in Afrin, saying, “The Turkish state has forced the people of Afrin to immigrate, clamped down on the citizens who remained in Afrin and settled mercenaries and their families in evacuated lands.”
The statement noted that although all crimes committed in Afrin were documented in the form of reports by international law organisations, the international community continues to remain silent.
Expressing that Turkey mainly aims to isolate Syrian Kurds who represent the identity of the region, the statement continued, “Historical, cultural and sacred spaces in Afrin have been looted. They intend to erase the history of the region. In addition, Turkish language and currency are imposed on the people of the region. Names of villages and provinces are changed and Turkish flag is hung on buildings. Native citizens of the region are forced to immigrate and families of Arab and Turkmen gangs are settled in their place. Local residents are kidnapped and subject to ransom, all kinds of vicious crimes are committed against women.”
Pointing out that 150,000 Afrin citizens are facing hard conditions in Shehba camps, the Local Administrations Committee and Afrin Region Municipalities stated that the IDPs want to turn back to their lands. They also condemned the international community, especially guarantor Russia and Damascus government, for remaining silent against the crimes of the Turkish state.
The statement lastly called upon all of world countries and international forces demanding peace to break the silence against crimes of changing the demographical structure in Afrin. Also, the immigrants were addressed upon the call for insisting on resistance and united struggle to liberate Afrin.
