People of Til Hemîs: It is our duty to ensure the physical freedom of Leader Öcalan

On the last day of the hunger strike in Til Hemîs district of Cizre Canton, activists vowed to increase the level of struggle until the physical freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan is ensured.

A two-day hunger strike action was launched in Til Hemis as part of the international campaign "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a political solution to the Kurdish question", launched worldwide on 10 October. Members of civil society organisations, representatives of political parties, council members and many people participated in the hunger strike. Images of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and SDF flags were hung on the tent set up in the area where the School Administration building is located in the district. The action is also taking place in solidarity with the political prisoners on hunger strike in Turkey and North Kurdistan under the motto "We salute the resistance in the dungeons and we will liberate the Leader with the spirit and values of the martyrs".

On the second day of the hunger strike, hundreds of people from Til Hemîs district of Cizre Canton, members of civil society organisations and representatives of political parties visited the tent where the action is taking place.

Speaking at the hunger strike action today, Mensûr El Ebdullah, a member of the Democratic Society Academy of Til Hemîs, emphasised Abdullah Öcalan's ideas and his role in bringing about a change in society and strengthening the relations between the components of the region, and said: "The Leader has fought for our freedom and now it is our duty to ensure his physical freedom."

Silêman Mihemed, Co-Chair of Ebû Curn Town Council of Til Hemîs district, emphasised the importance of the continuation of the protests calling for the physical freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and called for mass participation in these protests until the physical freedom of the Leader is achieved.

Mela Mutez El Enter, a member of the religious institution in the district, said, "We must increase the level of our struggle so that the organisations that supposedly protect humanity and human rights wake up."

The statement at the end of the demonstration was read out by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) district co-chair Xalib al-Sedoun.

Condemning the isolation policies on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the statement pointed out that it is the duty and responsibility of the people of the district to continue the struggle for the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.

Afterwards, the participants of the demonstration danced to traditional and revolutionary songs.

The hunger strike actions, which are expected to continue in the Cizre region, will continue tomorrow at the Free Women's Square in Amûdê district.
