The Turkish state and its proxies continue their ground and aerial attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria, particularly intensifying their assaults on Tishrin Dam and Qereqozax Bridge.
Tishrin Dam is a vital source of life for the people of Northern and Eastern Syria, providing water and electricity to the region. For this reason, people have been going to the dam from many different cities for over a month to attend the vigil organized at the dam to protect their resources and ensure their security.
Some of those at the vigil spoke to ANF.
Cîhan Ehmed: "The people of Cizre Canton in Northern and Eastern Syria, have come to Tishrin Dam in convoys to protect their water, electricity, and land. We will defend our lands. Tishrin Dam is not just a source of water and electricity; it is our land, and it is our duty to protect it. The Turkish occupying state is targeting civilian areas with airstrikes to force the people away from the dam and occupy it. The Turkish occupation must know that this dam is the source of life of the people of Northern and Eastern Syria. For this reason, we will never abandon our dam. This dam has been defended with the blood of our children. As mothers and women, we are also contributing to the revolutionary people's struggle by defending this dam. As a mother, I call on all human rights organizations to stop the Turkish state's attacks on civilians and hold Turkey accountable. The Turkish state is targeting and killing people of all ages, from children to the elderly, on a daily basis. But with our unity, we will defend our lands. Every day, we will continue our vigil at Tishrin Dam until our dam is liberated from the occupiers."
This dam is our source of life
Leyla Selman: "From children to the elderly, everyone has come to Tishrin Dam because we must protect our land, our water, and our electricity. The Turkish state is using advanced military technology to attack civilians, killing innocent people every day. But we are not afraid of their bombs and warplanes. These attacks will never break our determination because this dam belongs to us; it is our land, our water. As mothers, we are here to defend our dam, and no one can take our land from us. The Turkish state, driven by its greed, is trying to occupy our land. Human rights organizations must take a stand against these attacks, and the Turkish state must be held accountable. The world must know that we will never abandon our land, and we will continue to protect our region. Tishrin Dam is our source of life, and we will defend this life. Even if we have only one drop of blood left, we will fight for our land. We swear that we will never allow the enemy to occupy our lands."
We reject the Turkish state's attacks
Şaha Seîd: "Tishrin Dam is our source of water and electricity. By what right is the Turkish state seeking to cut off our electricity and water? We will protect our water and electricity. The Turkish state is targeting civilians with warplanes, killing innocent people. But our will is strong, and we are not afraid of their bombs and artillery. The Turkish state can attack us, but we will never give up. We will continue to defend our land. The Turkish state has failed. It does not dare to attack the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), so instead, it targets civilians. The Turkish state does not want the Kurds to be free because it knows how many crimes it has committed against the Kurdish people. Turkey must understand that these attacks only lead to death and destruction. It must abandon its dirty politics and stop this war. The Turkish state must know that we, as mothers, will continue our vigil at Tishrin Dam until it is liberated.
As mothers and women, we do not accept this occupation, and we will always reject it."
