Mercenaries in Afrin torture a couple and loot their home

Turkish-affiliated mercenaries raided a house in Afrin and tortured a couple and looted their home while holding them captive overnight.

Turkish-affiliated mercenaries carried out a nighttime raid on a house in the village of Bîbaka, located in the Bilbilê district of occupied Afrin (Efrîn). During the raid, the homeowners, 60-year-old Fayiq Hebeş and his wife Emîne Îsa, were subjected to severe torture.

According to local sources, the armed men broke into Fayiq Hebeş’s home, beat him, tied his legs, and looted the house. His wife, Emîne Îsa, was attacked while trying to save him. She suffered a fractured skull due to a blow to the head and was taken into surgery. Reports also state that her hands and arms were tied, and she was held captive until morning.

Fayiq Hebeş and his wife Emîne Îsa had returned to their village from Aleppo about a year ago. However, since their return, they have reportedly been subjected to ongoing threats.

In a recently circulated audio recording, the village head warned that Kurds returning to their homes must report to the mercenaries’ headquarters, otherwise they would face threats and violence.

Abductions, torture, looting, and ransom demands targeting civilians have become frequent occurrences in Afrin.
