Kongra Star opens academy for both women and men in Hesekê canton

Kongra Star opened an academy for both women and men in the Canton of Hesekê in order to spread the idea of communal life.

Kongra Star opened the first joint ideological academy for women and men on Tuesday at the Kongra Star building in Hesekê Canton.

This is the first joint academy that Kongra Star has opened for the education of both men and women, as Kongra Star academies are usually for women's education only.

The Academy takes its name from Martyr Perwîn Derwîş, who was the first martyr of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in Hesekê and died in 1997 in the Gar region of Medya Defense Areas.

Members of the council, civil and military organizations and the family of martyr Perwîn attended the ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the family of Martyr Perwîn, her sister Leyla Derwîş at the beginning of the ceremony said: "Every successful step we take is thanks to the martyrs, one of them is Martyr Perwîn, one of the first martyrs of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in Hesekê."

Talking about Martyr Perwîn, Leyla continued: “Martyr Perwîn came from a patriotic family. She joined the armed struggle in 1997 and fought until she fell a martyr.”

Hesekê Canton Kongra Star Education Committee Executive Member Azar Xelîl commemorated all the martyrs of freedom, reiterated the promise made to them to follow the path of the peoples of Northern and Eastern Syria until victory, and saluted the great resistance of the guerrilla against the enemy in the Medya Defense Areas.

Kongra Star sees academies as educational and learning spaces for women and society, and as the basis for spreading the idea of free coexistence.
