Democratic Society Academy opens education centre in Wasûkani Camp in Hesekê

An education academy named Martyr Zevîn Sozdar was opened by the Democratic Society Academy in Wasûkani Camp in Hesekê.

Hesekê Canton Democratic Society Academy opened its new center in the Washûkani Camp, where refugees from Serêkaniyê are staying. The camp is located in the neighbourhood of Telayî in Hesekê. The Academy was named Martyr Zevîn Sozdar.

The family of Zevin Sozdar, who fell as a martyr in the attacks carried out by ISIS and Front Al Nusra in the Serêkaniyê region in 2014, as well as dozens of refugees in the camp, members of civil society organizations and the education committee attended the opening ceremony.

Ebdulxeni Oso, one of the directors of Martyr Ruken Academy in Hesekê Canton, underlined the importance of education and added the importance of the development of society in the fields of science and culture, and stated that the purpose of the academies is to spread knowledge, ideas and culture among communities.

Oso said that the Martyr Zevin Sozdar Academy will play a key role in providing refugees in the camp with ideas and philosophy to improve themselves in accordance with social life, and added: "In this process, the enemy targets all values, language and culture of society. Therefore, we must protect the democratic nation culture. I call on everybody to participate in the training in order to develop themselves and build a free and democratic society."

The door of the academy was opened by the mother of martyr Zevin Sozdar, Zerga Hesen, and her father, Cemil Mihemed Wehid Xelil.

The first training period started on Thursday. It was named after Jabir El-Ali, who fell a martyr on 21 August 2021.
