DEM Party İmralı Delegation to make a comprehensive statement after a visit to Demirtaş

Sırrı Süreyya Önder a member of the DEM Party's İmralı Delegation, said they would make a comprehensive statement after visiting Selahattin Demirtaş, the imprisoned former co-chair of the HDP.

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Parliamentary Deputy Chair Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Van MP Pervin Buldan and Ahmet Türk, the deposed co-mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, continue their visits to political party leaders after their meeting with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı.

Speaking after today’s visit to Ahmet Davutoğlu, the president of the Future Party, Önder said, “We exchanged some experiences. We conveyed to him the information we have in the light of new negotiations. We asked for his advice, suggestions, criticism and warnings. They informed us in detail. We will make a comprehensive statement after we visit Mr Selahattin Demirtaş.”

Davutoğlu thanked the delegation for their visit and said, “It was a very sincere and open-hearted consultation. We conveyed our own opinions and emphasised how lessons should be learned from experiences. We stated that it is of great importance for Turkey to strengthen its internal structure in the context of adapting to the rapid changes in the region in the axis of Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, as the world is experiencing great turbulence and a great tsunami is taking place.

Strengthening the internal structure can only be achieved through the construction of a real democracy. This can only be achieved through a perspective in which Kurds, Turks and all citizens in Turkey are protected by the law and look to the future with hope. My advice to both the members of the delegation and all politicians in Turkey is that this period, which started with Mr Bahçeli's remarks and spread to all layers, should be treated in a cold-blooded manner, closed to provocations, respecting public order and with the concern of building a peaceful Turkey based on our deep historical knowledge and experience.”
