SYRIAN CONFLICT

The Foreign Affairs Department of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) issued a written statement regarding the results of the 33rd Arab Summit held in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, on 16 May 2024.

The statement released on Monday reads as follows:

"Article 6 of the summit outcome addressed the situation in Syria and the safe return of refugees and demographic change was rejected.

We emphasise that it is important to implement the stated points on the situation in Syria on the basis of implementing common principles. There is a positive attitude among the Arabs towards the solution of the main problems in Syria.

The events in Afrin and other parts of Syria are contrary to Arab efforts to bring peace to Syria. In addition to the practices of the occupying Turkish state and its gangs, migration and demographic change are taking place in those areas.

We express our readiness to co-operate with the Arab League and other forces in the fight against terrorism, ensuring security and preventing demographic change.

We call on the Arab League to press for the realisation of the hopes of the Syrian people, the end of the occupation and the establishment of stability in the region. We want to emphasise again that we will protect the unity of Syria, its people and its geography by fulfilling our national duty."
