The Democratic Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria handed over a woman and 3 children from ISIS to a British delegation.

A British delegation, headed by the British Special Representative for Syria, Anne Snow, and consisting of the British Second Political Secretary for Syrian Affairs, Ed Wilkes, visited Northern and Eastern Syria on 22 May 2024.

The British delegation was welcomed by Îlham Ehmed and Fener El Giêt, co-chairs of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria, Xalid Îbrahîm, Board Member of the department, and Lana Hisên, representative of the Women's Defense Units (YPJ).

Speaking at the meeting where the political, economic, security and humanitarian situation in Syria was discussed, Îlham Ehmed said that the municipal elections to be held in Northern and Eastern Syria on 11 June are a positive step towards the establishment of a more legitimate and transparent democratic system.

Drawing attention to the attacks by the Turkish state against Northern and Eastern Syria, Îlham Ehmed said that the infrastructure of the region was greatly damaged due to the attacks, and therefore the tension and pain in the region deepened.

Britain's Special Representative for Syria, Anne Snow, said that Britain, one of the members of the International Coalition fighting against ISIS, will continue its duty against the threat posed by the Islamic State to prevent its revival. Snow added that the situation in Northern and Eastern Syria is complex, and that the ISIS threat is in Syria, Iraq and Syria.

Snow thanked the SDF and the Democratic Autonomous Administration Foreign Affairs Department officials for supporting the delegation in the return of British citizens in Northern and Eastern Syria to their country.
