A senior ISIS leader captured in Deir ez-Zor countryside

SDF continues working tirelessly to dismantle ISIS cells, disrupt their financial and logistical networks, and eliminate the organization at its roots.

As part of ongoing military operations to pursue the remnants of ISIS terrorist cells, the Military Operations Teams (TOL) of the Syrian Democratic Forces (DF), in participation with the International Coalition Forces, conducted a precise and targeted security operation targeting a senior ISIS leader.

According to the SDF Press Center, the operation took place in the town of Al-Busayrah, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor following intelligence-gathering process on the movements of the terrorist Khaled Marbad Obaid, also known as “Abu Omar.” After confirming his location, SDF forces successfully surrounded the area, imposed a tight security cordon, and captured him.

Khaled Marbad Obaid was primarily responsible for the distribution of weapons and ammunition to ISIS sleeper cells, which have been carrying out terrorist attacks against SDF forces, security personnel, and civilians, according to the statement.

“Despite our forces’ preoccupation with repelling attacks by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries on northern and eastern Syria, our forces remain committed to counterterrorism operations. We continue working tirelessly to dismantle ISIS cells, disrupt their financial and logistical networks, and eliminate the organization at its roots,” stated the SDF.
