8 killed, over 40 injured in ISIS landmine blast in Deir ez-Zor

SOHR has documented the death of 51 civilians due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2023.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that eight people were killed and more than 35 others sustained various injuries due to an old landmine explosion in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

According to Syrian state-controlled SANA, a landmine left behind by ISIS terrorists went off in a truck carrying a group of citizens while they were going to search for truffles in Kabajib area in the southwestern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

SANA reported that five citizens were martyred in the explosion and more than 40 others were injured and they were rushed to al-Assad Hospital for treatment.

Three days ago, 10 civilians were killed and 12 more injured in the explosion of two mines placed by ISIS in the central Hama region. The victims were picking truffles when they were hit by ISIS.

In mid-February, 68 civilians picking truffles were killed in an attack by ISIS in the east of Homs.

The truffles grown in the Syrian desert are considered a world-wide top quality, usually gathered between February and April and sold expensively.

SOHR has documented the death of 51 civilians, including two women and 18 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2023. In addition, over 118 civilians, including 28 children and four women, sustained various injuries.
