16 ISIS members detained in Roj Camp operation

A joint security operation by the Women's ISF and the YPJ at Roj Camp in Derik, Jazira Canton, ended with the detention of 16 individuals linked to ISIS.

The comprehensive security operation, launched on 5 April 2025 at Roj Camp—located in the countryside of Derik, in the Jazira Canton of North and East Syria—successfully concluded today (Monday, 7 April).

Jointly conducted by the Women's Internal Security Forces (Women's ISF) and the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), the operation resulted in the capture of 16 ISIS members and collaborators.

Details of the operation revealed

In a written statement released by the General Command of the Women's ISF, it was noted that the operation had been planned based on sensitive intelligence provided by security units. Over the course of the three-day operation, numerous security activities were carried out, including special nighttime raids.

The statement read: "This operation was launched as a planned and preventative step based on concrete information indicating that ISIS cells within the camp had become active and were attempting to reorganize by taking advantage of recent security developments in the region. It was determined that the organization was seeking to recruit both adults and children under the current circumstances and was particularly continuing to spread its radical ideology among children."

The statement included the following details:

"All sections of the camp were thoroughly searched.

Nighttime operations targeted ISIS-affiliated cells.

Sixteen ISIS members and collaborators, who were attempting to recruit new mercenaries through external connections and smuggle families out of the camp, were captured.

Advanced communication devices used to make contact with the outside world were seized.

A secret tunnel used to move between the interior and exterior of the camp was discovered and secured."

The statement further noted: "Investigations revealed that ISIS cells in the camp were specifically targeting children in an effort to indoctrinate them with radical ideas. However, thanks to the determination and precise interventions of our forces, these attempts were successfully thwarted."

The statement concluded with the following remarks: "As the Women's ISF and the YPJ, we emphasize that this operation marks a new phase in our struggle against ISIS. We will continue our efforts with unwavering determination to protect our society from the threat of ISIS and to provide a safe and stable living environment for the people of Syria and all peoples of the world."
