254 people die during flood disaster in Colombia

254 people lost their lives during the flood disaster in Mocoa town in southwestern Colombia.

At least 254 people died during the flood disaster that hit Mocoa, Colombia. Many people are reported to be missing as rescue teams are trying to reach hundreds of people.

Officials announced that at least 400 people got injured and 200 people have gone missing in Mocoa, and the Colombia Red Cross volunteers estimate that at least 254 people died during the disaster.

Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos declared a state of emergency in the region and went to Mocoa in order to monitor the rescue efforts. Santos said "We will do everything to helps the victims of the disaster. I am in pain."

Colombian Air Force is delivering aid materials, water and medicine to the region. Mocoa Mayor Jose Antonio Castro stated that the town has been completely isolated and lacks electricity and drinking water.
