Former HDP co-chair’s case merged with Kobanê file

Former HDP co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ’s case has been merged with the newly opened Kobanê case.

The hearing of the main case in which Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ is tried risking a prison sentence of 30 to 83 years was held in Ankara.

While Yüksekdağ was not attending the hearing held at the 16th High Criminal Court, lawyers were present. The lawyers who made their defense at the hearing demanded the release of Yüksekdağ.

Case merged

The court committee rejected Yüksekdağ's request for release and announced its interim decision while deciding to merge this case with the one popularly known as the "Kobanê case". The request was accepted by the Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court. In its justification, the court argued that there are personal, de facto and legal connections with the Kobanê case.

Yüksekdag is accused of "organizational management", "making propaganda", "participating in meetings and demonstrations in defiance of the law", "inciting hatred and hostility", "incitement to commit a crime" and "humiliating Turkish nation, Republic of Turkey, the state's institutions".

The case file filed against Yüksekdağ consists of 7 separate police investigation reports. A prison sentence of 30 up to 83 years is demanded for Yüksekdağ. Yüksekdağ's activities within the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and some of its political activities are among the accusations in the file.
