Court sentences HDP Bağlar former provincial co-chair Karaman to 9 years in prison

HDP Bağlar former provincial co-chair, Arzu Karaman, was sentenced to 9 years in prison.

The 11th hearing of the trial of the Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) former Bağlar provincial co-chair Arzu Karaman accused of "being member of an illegal organization" was held at the Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. Karaman's lawyer Fadıl Yıldız attended the hearing.

The prosecutor said she was a member of the Free Women's Congress (KJA) as an evidence as well as clothes she wore which the prosecutor claimed were similar in pattern to the symbol of the KJA and therefore of an illegal organization. In addition, books seized during the raid on Karaman’s house were also shown as evidence to build the charge of membership of an illegal organization.

The court board ruled that Arzu Karaman should be sentenced to 9 years in prison on the allegation that she was a member of an organization and added that the judicial control measure should continue.
