Workshop in Shengal on the anniversary of the genocide

This year's events to mark the anniversary of the ISIS genocide of Yazidis in 2014 are being organised with more extensive preparations compared to previous years.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the genocide attacks launched by ISIS on 3 August 2014, a workshop was organised in Shengal under the slogan ‘Justice and Freedom for the Yazidi Community’.

The conference, attended by more than 200 delegates from Iraq and abroad, will discuss how and under what conditions the genocide took place, why those responsible have not been prosecuted, the recognition of the Yazidi Genocide and the acceptance of the military and political will of the Yazidis.

This year's events are being organised with more extensive preparations compared to previous years. Many Arab representatives, academics and politicians from Shengal, South Kurdistan and Iraq are taking part in the conference. The causes and consequences of the genocide will be discussed, and those who stopped the massacre of Yazidis and Yazidism will be discussed.

In another session of the conference, issues such as the non-recognition of the Yazidi Genocide in Iraq, the failure to prosecute ISIS members and the failure of the protection forces to fulfil their duties will be discussed. Among the most important issues are the cancellation of the 9 October Agreement, the prosecution of those responsible for the genocide, the recognition of the genocide and the acceptance of the Shengal Autonomous Administration.

The opening speech of the conference was made by Dexîl İbrahim, Deputy Co-Chair of the Shengal Administrative Board, who explained the purpose of the conference.

The conference will continue under the moderation of PADÊ (Yazidî Democracy and Freedom Party) Politburo Member Qehtan Xelîl. The Conference Preparatory Committee stated that the workshop will end with the announcement of the final declaration.

Cihan Celo, Co-Chair of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Shengal (MXDŞ), stated that the conference is organised under the slogan ‘From Genocide and Slavery to Autonomy and Freedom’ and that many seminars will be held on the rights of Yazidis and the solution of their problems. The seminars will be held directly and online.
