Week of action for Öcalan’s freedom continues

For weeks the Kurdish movement in Europe has been staging actions for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan with rallies, vigils, demonstrations, sit-ins, information tables, banner drops, cultural programs, leaflets, flash mobs, mobile libraries.

Rallies, vigils, demonstrations, sit-ins, information tables, banner drops, cultural programs, leaflets, flash mobs, mobile libraries - for weeks the Kurdish movement in Europe for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan has been on the streets and squares, in buses and trains and post offices. The activities take place in the framework of the campaign "Time for Freedom" and show creativity. We document an excerpt of today's activities in Germany and Switzerland:

Action week in Düsseldorf

 

In Düsseldorf, an action week with content seminars and musical contributions on public squares has been running since Monday. The program is organized by the Kurdish association FED-MED and every day other groups travel from all over North Rhine-Westphalia.

Kurds from Dortmund and Bonn as well as members of ADKH, ATIK, PDSK and MLKP participated in today's action on Corneliusplatz Square. Former HDP deputy Tuba Hezer spoke about the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan and criticized the German government and the EU states for their attitude towards Turkey. Ronî Erez and Narînxan performed in the music program.

Vigil in Frankfurt

 

In Frankfurt am Main, for the third year in a row, about fifty people gathered for a vigil to demand an end to the isolation on Imrali and freedom for Öcalan.

The vigil in Frankfurt will end with a rally on February 27.

Permanent action in Stuttgart

 

In Stuttgart, an action with changing groups has been taking place at the "Kobanê Square" since Monday. The action was joined by Kurds from Heilbronn and Pforzheim On Wednesday, and a group from the Kurdish People's Council from Freiburg today. During the action, information material about Öcalan is distributed, speeches are held and music performances are staged. In addition, the success of the guerrilla resistance in Gare against the cross-border military operation of the Turkish army was celebrated today.

Tent with info table in Nuremberg

 

In Nuremberg, an info table has been promoting the ‘Freedom for Öcalan’ campaign since Wednesday. The info tent was at Hallplatz Square today and will be set up at Hans-Sachs Square at 3 pm on Friday.

 

Letter campaign to UN Secretary General

Initiated by trade unions from South Africa, a letter campaign to the UN Secretary General has been running since January to urge António Guterres to commit to a solution to the Kurdish question and an end to Öcalan's isolation. Hundreds of letters have been sent out in Bielefeld.

In Duisburg, Asya Yüksel Women's Council has collected signatures as part of the “100 Reasons to Prosecute the Dictator” campaign launched by the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E) to bring Turkish president Tayyip Erdoğan for his crimes against women.

 

In Biel, Switzerland, Arîn Mîrkan Women's Council has taken collected signatures to the post office.
