Violent clashes in Mosul

Violent clashes are taking place between the Iraqi army and ISIS gangs in four neighborhoods of Mosul in the operation to liberate the city from ISIS occupation.

The Iraqi army and allied Shiite groups have entered two more neighborhoods in west Mosul as part of the operation to liberate the city from ISIS which had begun in October, 2016.

Nineveh Operations commander Abdulemir Rashid Yarella issued a written statement and stated that clashes continue between ISIS gangs and Iraqi coalition forces that have entered Hurabia and Rifahî neighborhoods. Yarella noted that Iraqi armored units entered İktisadiyin and 17 July neighborhoods from the north and the south, and continue to advance by capturing gangs' positions.

On the other hand, Hashd al-Shaabi forces reportedly continue their operation to liberate the Kayrawan district between Mosul and Shengal from ISIS.

The Iraqi army supported by the international coalition, Hashd al-Shaabi forces and Peshmergas launched an operation on October 17, 2016 to liberate Mosul from ISIS that had occupied the town in June, 2014. Peshmergas carried out operations in rural parts of Mosul but not joined the operations in the city.
