Victims of ISIS genocide in Shengal commemorated in Sweden

Kurds and their friends demonstrated in the squares of Stockholm, Helsingborg, Örebro, Västerås in Sweden to commemorate the victim of ISIS genocide in Shengal on 3 August 2014.

The Yazidi Women Federation had called on women around the world to demonstrate against violence against women on the fifth anniversary of the ISIS genocide against the Yazidi people in Shengal. 

Calls were made to the Swedish Government, the European Union and the United Nations to challenge the Turkish state's threats, invasion attempts and attacks on Southern Kurdistan, Rojava and Northern Syria.

Stockholm

At 11 am on Saturday a minute silence was held at the Kurdish Community Center to remember the victims of ISIS genocide.

Then an action organized by the Amara Women's Assembly and the Stockholm Democratic Kurdish Community Center was held at Sergels Torg Square.

Yekbun Alp, one of the leaders of the Left Party Uppsala Region spoke after the minute silence for the freedom fighters who lost their lives in resistance against ISIS in Shengal.

Alp reminded that ISIS mercenaries wanted to destroy the Yazidi and in particular the Yazidi women.

Reminding that the peshmergas of the KDP left the Yazidi alone without any warning, Alp reminded that thousands of women, girls and children were kidnapped by ISIS members, killed, sold as slaves.

Helsingborg

Executives of the Kurdish Democratic Community Center in Helsingborg visited the Yazidi House and then held an action in the city center to condemn the massacres carried out by ISIS mercenaries.

A large number of people joined the action.

Kurdish politician Abdullah Konya said that thousands of Yazidi were killed and women were made slaves.

Reminding that YPG / YPJ and PKK were those who intervened to counter ISIS and saved thousands of Yazidi from genocide, Konya called on Sweden and Western countries to oppose the attacks of the Turkish state against YPG / YPJ and PKK.

Cladudia Velasques, Chair of the Left Party of Helsingborg, stressed that the YPG / YPJ forces showed great heroism and sacrifices.

After the speeches, the people marched towards Stora Square. The Democratic Kurdish Community Centers in Gothenburg and Malmö also joined the action.

Örebro

In Våghustorget Square pictures of the Yazidi genocide were displayed. A Kurdish woman wearing a burka carried out a sit-in in the square to condemn ISIS mercenaries for selling women.

Vasteras

A demonstration was held in Vasteras to commemorate the victim of ISIS genocide in Shengal.
