Two more bodies found in mass grave in Bitlis

Authorities searching for mass graves of Kurds who disappeared in the 1990s unearthed the bones of two more people in a field in Bitlis. The total number of remains of humans rose to 18.

According to local head of Human Rights Association Vedat Sengul, almost every victim has bullet wounds on their skull.

Sengul claimed that Turkish general staff had information of the mass graves but remained silent over the years. He said that it's highly possible that the army and general staff has “concrete reasons” for hiding the truth about mass graves.

Sengul also said there are more mass grave sites and IHD appealed to the authorities for further excavations.

Human right groups believe many of the hundreds of Kurds and leftists who disappeared in the 1990s were victims of summary executions by government forces, though there have been few prosecutions.
