ÝHD(Human Rights association) Hakkari Branch joined the continuing "bilingual life" campaign in Turkey by writing its signboard in two languages.
Shopkeepers and CSOs in many parts of Turkey keep adopting a bilingual life. For the expansion of life with two languages and to provide better service to the public, ÝHD Hakkari Branch changed its signboard of its building into Kurdish-Turkish. Making a short statement to the press in front of the building soon after the placement of the signboard, ÝHD Hakkari Branch Chairman Ýsmail Akbulut remarked that they, as ÝHD, hung the first bilingual signboard in Hakkari. Akbulut said the followings; “All of the population speaks Kurdish here. We needed to change our signboard into Kurdish-Turkish to enable people learn about their own institutions. Starting from the signboard, we have headed towards bilingualism. We also demand the legal regulations to be made for education in mother language”.
