Turkish police detain at least 24 people in Van on in the last two days

Turkish police detained at least 24 people in house raids in Van on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Turkish judiciary has used the work carried out at the Yenimahalle Free People's Association, which was founded in 2015, as a justification for detentions.

In the raids carried out on Wednesday morning, members of the Peace Mothers Council Türkan Işık, Gıyasettin Çevirel, Metin Duman, Gülcan Adar, Dilber Işık, İsmail Kaval, Hekim Cindioğlu, Muhsin Duman, Abdurrahman Dik, Gürgin Kara, Nafia Öztunç, Hazal Öztunç and Salih Kırat were detained.

The raids continued as part of the same investigation this morning. Eleven people were detained in these raids. It was noteworthy that most of the detainees were women over the age of 60.

Hatice Duman, 60 years old, Fatma Yorgun and Xeme Işık are among those taken into custody.

All of them are accused of "being a member of an organization". The Turkish judiciary was not satisfied with the detentions and placed a confidentiality order on the file and extended the detention period by 4 days.
