Turkish PM threatens Southern Kurdistan with military measures

Turkish PM Binali Yıldırım threatened Southern Kurdistan in regard to the independence referendum, arguing that consequences of the referendum will be grave and mentioning a military option on Turkey’s side.

Answering journalists’ questions in Kırşehir city, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım continued to utter threats on the independence referendum scheduled for Southern Kurdistan on 25 September.

Yıldırım said the Southern Kurdistan Regional Government insisted on the mistake, saying the following;

"The steps we are to take will undoubtedly be coordinated with the neighbouring countries Iraq and Iran. This will include diplomatic, political, economic and security aspects. As things develop, we will decide accordingly which step to take at which time. All the alternatives have been discussed and put on the table. We will see what the result of the referendum will be, and announce thereafter what we will do. We also have an emergency meeting today in the parliament where we will discuss a mandate to send troops abroad. We thank the parties MHP and CHP for their support on this issue. When it is our country in question, politics is always of secondary importance in our tradition.”
