Turkish fascists attack participants of the Long March

Turkish fascist mob attacked the participants of the Long March walking from Luxembourg to Strasbourg in the town of Wasselonne.

Internationalist activists from 15 countries and representatives of Kurdish institutions in Europe continue their march to Strasbourg which they launched from Luxembourg on February 1 with the motto 'Freedom for Öcalan, status for Kurdistan' in protest at the international conspiracy that targeted Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 15, 1999.

Participants of the march were attacked by a fascist Turkish group in Wasselonne after their arrival in the town and gathering at Saint Lorain Hall yesterday evening.

While police dispersed the assailants with tear gas, the Organization Committee said the attacks they have faced are aimed at provocation.

The marchers faced an attack, again by Turkish fascists, in the town of Saverne yesterday. Protestors continued to march after the attack but they were stopped by French security forces in the town of Marmoutier 7 kilometers away. French police and gendarme surrounded the protestors in the town and hindered the march by use of force. Security forces also attempted to detain some protestors and threatened to ban the march if these are not handed over to the police.

Gendarme and police officers in Marmoutier, 35 kilometers to Strasbourg, allowed the demonstrators to continue their march after a while.
