Towards the end in Mosul

A statement by the Iraqi army said that the operation to liberate Mosul from ISIS is nearing the end.

Iraqi army joint operation force spokesperson Saed Maen made a written statement about the ongoing operation to clear Mosul of ISIS that continues since 17 October 2016.

Saed Maen said the Iraqi army has only tens of meters left to cleanse the remaining areas of ISIS and reach the Tigris River.

Iraqi state television reported that Old Mosul area has entirely been cleansed of ISIS and clashes continue around the Press Centre. According to the report, 36 ISIS members were killed and 6 others were captured alive in the ongoing fighting in this area.

The campaign to liberate Mosul, which ISIS occupied on 10 June 2014 and where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared caliphate on 28 June 2014, continues since 17 October 2016 with aerial support from the US.
