TJK-E takes over the sit-in before the Council of Europe

Since one week a sit-in for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is taking place in front of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The action is carried out by alternating groups from Kurdish civil society and the Turkish left.

Activists of the Kurdish women's movement in Europe (TJK-E) have taken over the sit-in before the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The action, which started last Monday for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan as part of the KCK campaign "Stop Isolation, Fascism and Occupation - Time for Freedom" and will last several weeks, is being carried out by alternating groups from Kurdish civil society and the Turkish left. Last week representatives of various emancipatory groups from Turkey, Kurdistan and the Middle East took part in the action.

The sit-in in front of the Council of Europe takes place at the same place where a permanent vigil for the Kurdish leader Öcalan has been running since June 2012, in which over 2000 people have participated so far. The TJK-E will therefore initiate in the coming days together with the activists of the vigil various seminars with a focus on feminicide, women's liberation struggle and feminist ideologies.
