Three HDP politicians released from prison

HDP politicians Elif Kısa, Bekir Kara and Nalan Özaydın have been released from prison.

Elif Kısa and Bekir Kara of the executive board of the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Elbistan district association in the province of Maraş have been released from prison. They had been detained together with Ali Kısa on 3 December last year on terror charges and the two were arrested one day later.

70-year-old Ali Kısa was released in December. Elif and Ali Kısa are married and have two children. One of their sons has a severe disability of 100 percent, the other is deaf. Ahmet Kısa, one of the two sons, had repeatedly drawn attention to his mother's arrest in the social media in recent months.

Deposed mayor released over Corona infection

HDP co-mayor of Mazıdağı district in Mardin province who was removed from post and imprisoned in Tarsus T Type Women’s Closed Prison, has also been released.

The HDP politician was transferred to the quarantine ward of the state hospital in Mardin province four days ago on suspicion of infection with the coronavirus. A quick test was positive. Until the final test result is confirmed, Nalan Özaydın is to remain in the hospital by court order.

The court justified the annulment of the arrest warrant on the grounds that evidence had been gathered regarding the accusation of membership of a terrorist organisation, that the accused had tested positive for the coronavirus and could therefore pose a danger to other prisoners.
