“The Syrian Crisis needs a solution based on a strong foundation"

MSD Co-chair Ilham Ehmed stressed that the Syrian crisis needs a permanent solution based on a strong foundation through a new constitution that ensures the rights of all women, peoples and faiths for the whole country.

Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) Co-chair Ilham Ehmed gave the opening speech in the Syrian Women’s Council Constituent Congress. Ehmed saluted all women in the congress from Latakia, Tartus, Homs, Aleppo, the Efrîn region, the Cizre region, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa and Tabqa.

Ehmed said Syrian women are not the same women who can be exploited by male hegemony for their own interests anymore and stated that the troubles and conditions of women in the last 7 years stem from the millenia old patriarchal mindset. Ehmed continued: “What is happening now in Syria is the result of the patriarchal mindset and the old systems. That is why a deep rooted solution is needed, and our goal is to build a Syria on the basis of the democratic women’s culture.”
