The Spanish State made highest investment in arms in 20 years

Spain has been a member of NATO since 1984 and has participated in numerous military interventions of this war alliance, such as the aggression against Yugoslavia, the second Gulf War and the intervention in Afghanistan, in which it still participates.

The Spanish Government has given the green light to the investment of 7,331 billion euros in the renewal of armaments for the next few years.

The three approved plans contemplate the construction of 5 frigates of type F-110 between 2019 and 2032, for an amount of 4,320 billion euros, as well as the manufacture of 348 armored vehicles for the ground army of the model known as 8x8 Dragon, with a cost of 2,100 billion, and finally expenses of 903 million for the modernization of Eurofigher fighter-bombers.

At the same time, the Iberian nation maintains a bilateral military agreement with the United States, so in its territory there are US Army bases and permanent naval, air, intelligence and communications establishments.

The important financial investment in the military sphere comes at a delicate moment in terms of the Spanish economy that has been going through a structural crisis since the end of the 2000s, against which financial austerity policies and cuts in social expenses have been imposed.
