The first, who raised the flag in Raqqa: Neîm

Whoever mentions Neîm, conjures a smile on the other’s face. Most people simply refer to him as “crazy Neîm”.

Sometimes he pretends to be a bit crazy. Before July 19, everybody in Kobanê would know him. After the Kobanê resistance, he decided not to leave the city but stay, which is the reason why all Kurdish people know him today.

When his friends told him, “we are going to take you out of Kobanê”, he would burst into tears. After the 2004 uprising, he was taken into custody by the Baath regime and tortured for 40 days.

Since the Kobanê resistance, his name is well known on every frontline. When Raqqa was liberated, Neîm was also up in the front and shouting slogans all over the place. Besides, he was the first to raise the flag at the Al-Naim Square in Raqqa.

Every person, who knows him, asks the same question: “Is Neim the one, who is crazy, or is it us?”. He is a crazy resistance fighter. With his attitude, his way of speaking and laughing, he gives pleasure to everybody around him.

After the victory, Neîm himself said: “No animals left in Raqqa.” In his own language, “animal” equals Daesh (ISIS).
