Syria has entered a process of complete disintegration and collapse. The collapse of the state and the government, which could not be achieved during the civil war, is now taking place. From the beginning, Turkey played the leading role in making Syria collapse and dragging it into a bloody civil war. It took the lead in this. It formed alliances with all forces, including ISIS and al-Nusra, and opened its borders to them. It had both expansionist ambitions and wanted to prevent the Kurds from taking advantage of possible opportunities. These policies have led to heavy destruction as well as loss of lives and the displacement of millions.
Including the Astana process, Turkey has woven the web of destruction and division of Syria by saying ‘we are in favour of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity’. Those who are in favour of Syria's unity and sovereignty would not go for separate organisations such as the SNA and the ‘Syrian Interim Government’. They would not gather tens of thousands of armed forces around them and occupy Syria's territory. Turkey not only occupied an important region but also trained and equipped armed mercenaries.
Erdoğan made full use of the opportunities of being a member of NATO. He tried to rely on Russia on the one hand and NATO on the other. Locally, he collaborated with forces such as ISIS and al-Nusra and gathered their remnants, the mercenaries, around him. He did not recognise any law and moral rules. What happened to the Kurds of Afrin is the best example of this. He unleashed these mercenaries on the people. There was no evil they did not do. And this was turned into a line against the Kurds. Kurds have become unable to live and shelter in places where there is occupation and these mercenaries are present. The people's property and lands were confiscated, and those brought from outside and the mercenaries were settled in them.
The last example of this was in Tal Rifaat and Shehba. The Syrian army was attacked in coordination with al-Nusra and other forces. These forces entered places where the army withdrew. But the mercenaries, who are directly linked to Turkey, turned their attention to Shehba and Tal Rifaat, where Kurds live. These areas were besieged and heavy clashes took place. A decision was taken to withdraw to protect the people from massacres. Not only the military forces withdrew, but also the people as a whole. It has been seen and proved once again that the Kurds have no right to life in places where there is Turkish occupation and where mercenaries are unleashed.
The Turkish state and its gangs are now pressurising Al Nusra, saying ‘Kurds will not live in Aleppo either’. In Aleppo, hundreds of thousands of Kurds live in Kurdish neighbourhoods. They have been living there for centuries. They have now become part of a culture and life that forms the main fabric of that city. Due to the impositions of the Turkish state and its mercenaries and the siege of those neighbourhoods, the lives of hundreds of thousands are in danger.
It is now known that these attacks are based on years of preparation and the organisation and coordination of the Turkish state. There is nothing left to hide. Turkish official circles also say, ‘Tal Rifat and Manbij were to be left to us, but this was not done’. They themselves admit how they made Syria a subject of bargaining in Astana and other meetings and forced impositions to eliminate the autonomous administration. ‘We complied with our obligations, but they did not,’ they say as they accuse Iran and Russia. However, their obligations included disarming the forces in Idlib. Turkey did the opposite, arming, equipping and training them even more.
The AKP-MHP fascism tried to create an agenda by intimidating its own society, saying ‘Israel will attack us, Turkey is in danger, the maps will change’ and clouding the consciousness. As a result, it was Turkey’s administration that most actively participated in the collapse and division of Syria in accordance with the strategy of Israel and the USA. Israel had openly said that the borders in the Middle East would change. Turkey became the leading power participating in this game. The future of Syria as a whole is at stake. No one can predict exactly how it will turn out. There are many opinions and evaluations. Predictions can be made, but those who took this decision and coordinated it are at the helm. To a large extent, they will continue to march on without deviating from their goals.
Turkey is now concentrating on Manbij. It intends to cut the lifeblood of the Autonomous Administration to a significant extent in the event of capturing this city. Those speaking on behalf of the state say ‘Manbij has water and energy resources and is an important commercial centre’. If this place is taken, the Kurds will essentially be wiped out west of the Euphrates. In fact, in the Eastern Reform Plan, it was decided to Turkify the Kurds west of the Euphrates first. The implementation of this outside the borders is being carried out as a purge of the Kurds as a whole.
Turkey will not stop until the Autonomous Administration is eliminated. Everyone should act with the knowledge of this fact. Perception operations and games of confusion must be put aside. The practical equivalent of the discourse that ‘Kurds and Turks are brothers’ is to de-Kurdify the world! Would those who talk about brotherhood usurp the municipalities elected by the people, or bear unlimited Kurdish hostility?
The world should know that the war against ISIS and all the gains achieved are going down the drain. Turkey and al-Nusra are opening the doors of prisons and ISIS members are being released. ISIS is filling the vacuum left by the regime in many regions. ISIS is being put on the stage again.
