Temelli in Suruç: We’ll respond to this provocation with our vote

HDP co-chair joined the funeral of Esvet Şenyaşar.

A HDP delegation traveled to Suruç to attend the funeral of Esvet Şenyaşar, the father of brothers Celal and Adil, who were killed by relatives of AKP deputy Ibrahim Halil Yildiz.

The delegation, headed by HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli, also included HDK spokesperson Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, DTK co-chair Berdan Öztürk, HDP deputies and candidates, Urfa deputy candidate Nimetullah Erdoğmuş, ESP deputy chair Beycan Taşkıran.

HDP Temelli participated to the funeral service on Saturday of Esvet Şenyaşar, who was lynched by the AKP candidate’s relatives and died at hospital on the day his two sons, Celal and Adil, were buried. The funeral of the brothers was attacked by police.

HDP co-chair and candidate, Temelli said: “We are suffering a great deal of pain. It is a pain felt not only in Suruç but everywhere in Turkey”.

Noting that a three days mourning has been declared after the bloody attack, Temelli added: “Such an incident was expected since the election decision was taken. The government continued to use a language and attitude against our party which made us the target [of violence]. This incident did not happen by chance. It is the result of the calculations of the government willing to do whatever it takes to stay in power”.

In democracies, said Temelli “you go to the polls and wait for the polls response. Those who don’t want to go the polls carry out all provocations against our party. Suruç is an example of this”.

Temelli added: “The President made a statement about what happened in Suruç and he was quick to blame our party for it. The Interior Minister, who is responsible for investigating and exposing everyone’s responsibility in the events, is trying to deceive the public with fantasies”.

The explanations given by the Interior Minister are “so inconsistent - said Temelli - that this incident is linked to the visit of Mr İnce [CHP chair] to HDP presidential candidate Demirtaş. But there are provocations behind this. Three years ago in Ceylanpınar happened the same as today in Suruç”.

Temelli called on the political parties: “this incident is intended to overshadow the future of Turkey and 24 June elections. This incident should teach everyone a lesson. All parties should be sensible and make clear statements on this issue and demand the government to stop these provocations”.

Addressing the HDP members, Temelli added: “They are trying to make us fall into their provocations and thus endanger the election, prevent people from going to the polls and usurp people’s will. We will keep our anger inside and we’ll show them the answer at the polls. We will bring them to account after 24 June”.
